Every Christmas, my friends and I decide to play Secret Santa and give each other presents. This year we were all so busy that we couldn't celebrate our Secret Santa until today!

I was SOOO surprised with the thoughtful present I received this year! Everything about the present showed how much thought and care my friend put into it: the bag was blue (my favorite color) with a star balloon (I LOVE stars!), oh and the presents inside were just per-fect!

The presents inside were all Candyland themed! I dunno if I have ever mentioned it before, but I am completely obsessed with candy products. My friend somehow remembered that about me and gave me a donut charm, smores earrings, a gumdrop umbrella, Nerd flavored chapstick, and lots of chocolate kisses!

I couldn't believe that my friend knew me as well as he did. This present made me feel super special and loved :)

Today I took some time aside to go out with my friends, which honestly I don't do as much as I should. I had such a nice time just going to the movies and having a late night snack. I feel kind of guilty because I didn't spend as much time with my friends last year as I should have. I always say that I can do it all and juggle a hundred things at a time, but truth be told something always gets put on the back burner. Sadly, last year that was my friends.

However, I've decided to change this year! I'm definitely going to plan more fun nights like tonight. I want to make sure they all know how special they are to me :)

To be completely and utterly honest, I felt kind of lonely today. My brother Mike traveled back to Europe on Saturday, my brother Daniel moved out of my parents house yesterday (meaning that I am the last "kid" living at my parents place), and my boyfriend traveled to Colombia today to do some business. Its funny how life sometimes throws a whole lot of changes at the same time!

It's weird and kind of sad to have a brother living on a completely different continent than you. It's also weird to be the only kid still living at home (I don't feel bad about it or anything, I just miss having everyone else around). It's also weird that in the midst of all of these changes, my boyfriend unexpectedly had to travel to Colombia for the week.

Don't worry though, I'm perfectly fine. I still have my parents living at home with me and I really enjoy their company. I also plan on seeing my friends this week while my boyfriend is out of the country. My boyfriend will be back by the end of the week, I can't wait!

Sorry if this post isn't as cheerful and fun as I usually write; but I thought it would be nice to be honest with all of you on how I am feeling today. Just so you see I'm human and have sad days too.

A Nice Sunday

Comments:
Tomorrow my brother Mike leaves on a plane back to Europe (boo hoo!). To celebrate his last day in Panama, we all decided to go to one of Panama's most beautiful historical areas: Casco Viejo! This area is rich in history and beautiful scenery.

It was wonderful to walk around the area taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Of course, our family being as silly as it always is, we couldn't resist taking some funny pictures as well:

Apart from the beautiful view of the city, Casco Viejo also has a pretty floral walkway that is beautiful to walk through.

It was definitely the perfect way to enjoy our last day with my brother Mike. His visit to Panama has been beyond magical. There really is nothing like having the entire family together for the Holidays. We will miss you so much Mike!!

For some reason, I just LOVE today's outfit. I love it, I love it, I love it. I think it's because I thought this floral dress would look boring and matronly on me, and yet I think I managed to make it look young and fun!

Since I took a week and a half vacation to go to the beach and to the mountain side with my family, I came back to piles and piles of work! My desk (which is usually impeccably clear and clean... (hello neat freak!)) had 4-5 laaaaarge piles of papers and folders. It's pretty frustrating to know that you are so incredibly behind, but I'm just working as quick as I can. I'm sure I'll catch up.... someday..... hehe.

I would say that my style is very feminine and girly girl; but I've been wanting to try the men's-tie look for a while now! I really like how preppy the purple tie looks!

I still wanted to look feminine and not too boy-ish, so I added the curve hugging pencil skirt. I felt so smart and ready for business in this outfit! A great way to come back to work after a week and a half of vacations.

Hello 2012!!

I know it's a little late to write about my plans for 2012, but I've been so so busy that I haven't had another chance. I've really enjoyed 2011, especially since I'm back in Panama with my family and friends.

Here is a look at my 5 favorite outfits of the year 2011 as well as the 5 resolutions I have placed for 2012:

1. Spend more time with my family and friends: Although I already do spend a lot of time with my family, I hope to make even more plans with them during 2012. I also don't give my friends the attention they deserve; so I'm hoping to change that this year.

2. Be healthier: Note the emphasis on "-ier". I'm not naive enough to think that I'm going to eat lettuce and carrots all year and do exercise 6 days a week. All I want for 2012 is to be healthier than I was in 2011. Even if it's just drinking water instead of soda, or doing exercise twice a month. If it's healthier than last year, it's progress!

3. Go on more adventures: This year, my boyfriend and I have decided to go on more adventures together. We would like to visit more local beauties such as Bocas del Toro and San Blas, two areas of Panama that have gorgeous beaches!

4. Try new things: This year I would like to make an effort into trying new things. Instead of just going to the movies with my boyfriend, I could also try bowling, going to an arcade, walking in a park, or even explore new restaurants. There are so many places in Panama that I haven't explored yet, I would love to try new things often.

5. Improve my blog: I'm determined to improve The Joy of Fashion this year! I plan on posting makeup tutorials, challenges, DIY's, and other new ideas that you all have requested.

And there you have it folks, those are my humble resolutions for this year. I'm sure this year is going to be magnificent, I can't wait!

Vacation Part 2: Relaxing mountainside

Here is a quick look at the second part of my family vacation. After going to the beach, we drove to Boquete, a cool and breezy mountain area in Panama.

There is nothing more relaxing than being in the cool mountainside and staying in a hotel right next to a flowing river. It was the ultimate relaxing vacation. I spent most of my time on the porch, reading magazines, and making plans for 2012.

We also spent a lot of time walking around the peaceful town taking in all the gorgeous scenery around us.

Since the weather is breezy and cool up the mountainside, it is wonderful to stop and enjoy a warm cup of coffee or in my case, a hot coco!

One of the funniest jokes of the vacation was Gorilon and all of his activities. My family would discretely disguise and move Gorilon around the apartment so that I could find him and laugh my head off.

They had him eating a "healthy" snack....

Then eating and drinking something less healthy....

They also displayed him leaving the apartment on an adventure...

...and disguised as a killer!

It was hilarious to find Gorillon somewhere different every time.

It really was a wonderful relaxing vacation all together as a family. And of course, Gorilon was included because he is now part of the family as well :)

Vacations Part 1: Windy beach

I thought it would be fun to share just a couple of pictures of my family vacation at a beach called Playa Venao!

The hotel were we stayed at was right on the beach. You could hear the sound of the ocean anywhere you went.

We had a wonderful time walking on the beach...

...and enjoying the beautiful sunsets.

Even Gorilon relaxed and had a wonderful time.

I'm not really a huge beach lover (I'm more of a mountain girl), but I really truly enjoyed this mini-vacation at the beach with my family :)

Today my family and I drove up to our family's house in one of Panama's mountain areas to enjoy the weekend together. On the way up the mountain, I always enjoy rolling my window down and enjoying the cool breeze (Panama city is always very hot, so I really enjoy the cool weather up the mountain)

It's always so magical to come up here. The weather is wonderful, the sound of the leaves and river is relaxing, and spending quality time with family is priceless :)

A Merry Christmas Together

Christmas this year was nothing short of wonderful. As I mentioned the other day, my brother who lives in Europe decided to spend Christmas in Panama this year (for the first time in about 5 years), so everything was extra special this year with his presence.

My parents really outdid themselves this year with Christmas decorations and presents. I still feel like a kid waking up on Christmas morning and running out to see what "Santa" left under our tree.

We ate treats...

...opened presents...

...and we thanked and hugged each other.

My Boyfriend surprised me this year with a HUGE monkey plushie!!! (For all you new readers, my boyfriend and I call each other monkeys and love all things monkey). I am in love with this ginormous monkey!! We've named him Gorilon, which means Big Gorilla in Spanish.

I'm not the only one who loves my new monkey, my grandmother also loved it too!

We also took advantage that the entire family was together to take a family picture. We were all just so happy to be together.

By far, this year was one of the best Christmases we have ever had. Having my brother Mike here for the holidays was the best blessing we could have ever wished for. I am so happy that we are all together :)

Last year I decided I needed a couple of classic looking skirts, so I decided to buy this yellow skirt as well as twin orange and lime green skirts. DIY: Paperclip necklace

I finally got around to posting this DIY! Sorry for the delay guys!

Here is cute and fun craft: A paperclip necklace! Yes that's right, a necklace completely made of paperclips. I love how easy, quick, and quirky this DIY is!

Craft: Paperclip necklace

Source: Inspired by Glitter N' Glue

For this craft, all you will need is:

Lots of paper clips!

Here are the steps to completing this craft:

1. Make a strand of clips of each color: The first thing you need to do is separate the clips by color and then clip them together in long strands. Each color strand should be one clip longer than the previous strand. So for example, the closest strand to your neck would have 12 clips, the next color would have 13, the next 14, and so on.

2. Attach all strands to one paperclip: Next step is to attach each strand of paperclips to one single paperclip. Make sure to attach them in the order in which you want to display them.

3. Adjust length as desired: The 3rd and final step is to add as many paperclips as you want to get the desired length. I attached 4 clips to the back of the necklace, but you can add as many as you want!

Done!

As easy as 1, 2, 3!

So there you have it folks, go ahead and try making a paperclip necklace! It's easy, quick, and fun! Plus, it costs less than $1 (~~Or make it for free by using office supplies at work).~~

As I took my daily outfit pictures today, I could hear an adorable kitty meow crying for help. As I looked around, I finally realized that it was my kitty Maxi stuck on the roof (again). Yes, I wrote again because he gets stuck on the roof all.the.time.! He knows perfectly well how to come down from there, but he loves to plea for help and have one of us bring him down instead.

Maxi makes me so so happy! Not only does he accompany me in most of my picture taking, but he does adorable things like getting stuck on the roof. He looked soooo cute looking down at me and meowing!

As I have mentioned before, I work as a Purchasing Manager at my family's business. I'm also somewhat a supervisor of other employees. So, you would think that I would always dress pretty professionally and business-like; but as you have seen in my daily outfit posts, that's not always the case.

I don't really need to dress too professional since our company's dress code is business casual. So everyday I still dress pretty much the same way I always do. But then there are days like today were I decide to dress more professional and businesslike. And you know what? It feels good! I feel very powerful and executive-like. This week's Outfit of the Week goes to.... Fancy Treehouse! I just LOVE this polka dot and polka dot combo! This skirt and top look like they were made for each other. I also really admire the way she accessorized this outfit with the hat and the black booties. I have the hardest time wearing my black booties, so this outfit really inspires me. Good job Fancy Treehouse!

It's beggining to look a lot like Christmas...

Today my family and I decorated our Christmas tree! Yippie! I absolutely love decorating the Christmas tree every year. I especially enjoyed it this year since I missed it the last two years (I was studying and living in the U.S.)

To get into the Holiday spirit, we all wore these adorable Christmas hair clips my mom bought. We all looked so funny :)

We even had the pets get dressed up for the occasion:

**My cat wouldn't let me clip it on her head, so the behind was the best I could manage... hehe.

Our Christmas tree is very homey and informal. It doesn't really have a specific theme, it's more like a collection of memories that we have been gathering throughout the years. I love it just the way it is.

**I put the star up this year! My dad held on to me to make sure I didn't fall down... hehe

Each of us kids (my brothers, sister, and I) have a Christmas ornament with our name on it that an Aunt made us when we were born. It always feels special to put up one's ornament; mine has cute teddy bears:

At the end of the night, my Grandmother came to visit to watch us finish up the tree. All in all, a wonderful day filled with Christmas cheer :)

Even though I bought this dress MONTHS ago (Yeah I bought it in April or something like that and have only worn it twice....), I am still completely in love with it. The print is just breathtaking.

I spent a whole chunk of my afternoon cleaning my room. I'm not sure if I have ever mentioned it on my blog, but I am most definitely a clean freak. When things are out of place, I feel very stressed out and upset. In fact, I frequently wake up in a bad mood when I see my room messy. So I'm so happy I managed to organize today! (I still have a lot left though.... sigh)

Let me start off by saying that I used to not really like cars. It's not that I hated them, I just saw them as a means to get from point A to B. Now that I have been dating a car fanatic for 4 years (and have a brother and father who can't stop talking about cars), I have grown to appreciate and even like some cars (not a fanatic yet though!).

That said, I have been thinking about switching cars for a while now. I drive a 2003 blue Toyota Rav 4 and let me just say I LOVE IT. I have loved that car ever since the first time I saw it, and I was soooo lucky to receive it as a graduation present. It drives so smoothly and its so comfortable.

Anyway, even though I love it, the car is getting kind of older now so it's time for a change. I have considered three different cars to switch to (won't say which ones they are just yet!) and I went to see all three of them tonight. It was so exciting to look at each one and try to picture myself in it. I think I have made a decision, but I'm not 100% sure since they are all very nice.

Once I finally decide and buy a car, I will definitely take some pictures and share it with all of you just in case there are any car-fanatic readers out there... hehe... Wish me luck on making a decision!

Today I had an incident involving my skirt and the uncontrollable wind.... (You can already imagine what I'm talking about). Let me start at the beginning... Every morning, there is a group of 4 construction men that sit at a building across the street and stare at me when I walk to my car. At first it was uncomfortable, but I got used to it after a while.

Today I walked to my car carrying a bunch of bags that I needed to take to work. I looked something like this:

And just in that moment (while all these guys stared at me), the wind decided to blow my skirt uncontrollably. Oh, and it wasn't sexy like this:

I tried to stop it, but I had way too many things in my hands. I immediately hurried to the car and leaned against it to try to save myself (while all these men were laughing), but the wind was persistent.

I threw all my bags into the back seat and tried to regain control of my skirt to lean off the car and walk to the front seat of my car... however, it was impossible! (So frustrating).

So you know what I did (As the men still laughed at me)? I just jumped in the backseat of my car along with all the bags! Yes, that's right, I crawled my way all the way to the front seat (in a skirt I might add) and finally was ready to go.

Boy oh Boy, I was SOOOOO embarrassed. I wanted to dig a hole and hide in it. I was also annoyed at the men for staring and laughing. Anyway, what can I do right? These things happen... I bet those guys will be staring even more tomorrow... hip hip hurray (sarcastic)

Today I managed to order some presents online, so at least I feel that I am half way done with getting everyone presents. You see, I'm someone that likes to get very thoughtful gifts, so it takes me a long time to plan and decide what would be the best present. I still haven't finished (some people like my dad are SO hard to buy presents for), but I feel good that I have at least started!

One of the many things I have learned from following other blogs is that clutches are very very chic! The same outfit can look drastically different with a big brown bag or with a smaller brown clutch. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love big purses (they fit absolutely everything inside!); but something about clutches just seems so much more polished to me.

So, I am making an effort to buying a couple more clutches (since I used to have not one!). I don't think I will wear clutches everyday since they aren't as practical as big bags, but I'm happy to have them available for when I want to look just a little more polished.

Listen up everyone, I have some very exciting news!!! I have been working on a new secret project for several weeks now, and I am so happy to finally share it with all of you....

I have started a second blog called The Joy of Disney!

Yaaaii! I'm so excited! Don't worry, the Joy of Fashion isn't going anywhere... I just started this second blog so that I can express my love for both Fashion and Disney.

Basically, The Joy of Disney is where I will post Disney inspired outfits! In other words, I will use Polyvore to make outfits inspired by Disney characters such as Minnie Mouse, Alice in Wonderland, Little Mermaid, or even side characters such as Gus Gus, Figaro, and Flint. Today I went to a David Guetta concert and it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! When I first found out that David Guetta was coming to Panama, I just couldn't believe it. I have been looking forward to this concert for 2 months or so!! I went to a David Guetta concert last year in Washington, but tonight's concert was actually even better!

The lights, the music, the entire show was just excellent. You could feel the excitement of everyone in the audience. I just had sooooo much fun! Definitely one of the best concerts I have ever been to!

I was surprised when I found out that Panama was celebrating their very first Fashion Night Out ever! (Yeah, we didn't have that before...) I was SOOO excited when I found out! So today, after work, I headed to the close by mall where almost all stores where celebrating Fashion Night Out.

It was so cool how each store had DJ's, food, discounts, games, etc. There was so much life and movement in each store, it was so exciting!! Of course, I used all of the discounts as an excuse to buy a whole lot of things (one maxi dress, two rings, 3 pairs of earrings, 3 necklaces, and one bracelet!... Yeah, I went CRAZY!)

Oh, and btw, I am currently in love with my new high-low maxi skirt. When I walk, the skirt floats behind me like the wind... looooooove it :)

I have always said that I am no master when it comes to pattern mixing, but I'm pretty pleased with my plaid and polka dot combo. In fact, I have come to realize that polka dots are by far the easiest pattern to mix with other patterns!

Polka dots and stripes? Yes. Polka dots and florals? Yes. Polka dots and plaid? Yes. Polka dots and polka dots? Hell yes! So if you are hesitant on how to mix patterns, I would definitely recommend making one pattern polka dots and then pair it with any other pattern!

As I prepared the "Outfit Remix collage" that I post at the end of each "Daily Outfit post", I realized that this is only the second time I have worn this top in the entire year! That's right, this lovely embellished top has been sitting in my closet completely ignored for the entire year.

Just like the tragic story of this top, there are so many other nice items that I just don't wear as often as I should. Somehow I always gravitate to the same pieces and ignore other treasures... Well, at least on the bright side, when I re-discover these items in my closet it's as if I just went shopping! hehe

Today is a holiday in Panama, so everyone had the day off!! It felt SO good to sleep in on a Thursday and have the entire day to do whatever I wanted. I spent most of the day at home doing some projects (You know me, I'm a project-addict).

At night, my boyfriend and I did some quick shopping (I bought some amazing burgundy trousers... I can't wait to show them!) and then decided to have a bite to eat. Neither of us had eaten dinner, but nevertheless we decided that the best option would be some delicious hot chocolate and chocolate croissant dessert... hahaha, eating dessert before dinner is completely acceptable to me. In fact, eating dessert at any time of the day (I do mean any time... even for breakfast) is my idea of a wonderful meal ;)

Lately I have realized that my outfits have become a little "safer" and "predictable" when I go to work. I seemed to have lost that boldness in me to wear funky things to work. So today I decided to step out of my safe zone and wear bright pink tights to work!!

I know people stare when I wear things like this (sometimes good stares, but mostly bad stares); but it makes me happy to be myself. And like my dad always says to me, I am a walking example to others that it is important to be yourself no matter what others think.

Today's outfit is brought to you by.... a shoe! Yup, that's right, today's outfit was inspired by a shoe. I first saw these pink and orange & pink striped Pierre Hardy wedges in a magazine and I was instantly in love:

DIY: Floral brooches and hair clips

Ok, I'm FINALLY posting the DIY for the floral brooches I promised a couple of weeks ago (Sorry for the delay guys!)

This easy tutorial is to transform your everyday plastic flowers into fabulous versatile fashion accessories! Floral brooches/hair pins are such an easy way to give pizazz to any outfit; so don't hesitate in giving this easy craft a try!

Craft: Floral brooches and hair pins

Source: Invented by myself!

For this craft, all you will need is:

Plastic flowers (You can get this at any craft store)
Brooch clips and/or Hair Clippies (You can find this at any craft store)
Scissors
Needle and thread (Or a glue gun would probably work as well)

Here are the steps to completing this craft:

1. Sew Brooch clips to flower: I'm no sewing expert, but sewing these brooch clips to plastic flowers was easy peasy. Just sew through the circles and the back of the flower to make sure the clip is secure.

2. Optional - Glue Hair clip to flower: A second option is to use a glue gun to attach a Hair clip to the back of the flower.

Done!

Yup, this was a 2 step tutorial!

I personally attach both hair clips and brooch clips to my flowers so that they can serve a double purpose! Here are a couple of the many ways in which you can use these great accessories:

1. Clutter several brooches together to add pizazz to your plain blazer!

2. Clip them in your hair to achieve a romantic feminine look.

3. Clip them to necklaces to make a unique looking accessory

So there you have it folks! A quick and easy craft that will definitely add some color and life to your wardrobe. The best part? You can make many flowers in all the different colors... the possibilities are endless!

Can you believe that this is the one and only wrap dress I own? My parents bought it for me a couple of weeks ago, and after getting it tailored, I am finally wearing it for the first time.

I am loving how easy it is to make an outfit with a wrap dress! It doesn't need a belt and the print is interesting so it doesn't need many accessories... So basically I just put the wrap dress on + a pair of nice heels and go! It really doesn't get easier than that!

Today my brother Daniel, my sister, and I went to an Aerosmith concert!! When I first found out that they were going to play here in Panama, I couldn't believe it! I am not a huge Aersomith fan, but I do recognize that they are a historical band and that they have many many hits that I enjoy.

The concert was great! They played great hits like Crazy, Don't wanna miss a thing, Sweet Emotion (my fav!), Dream On, etc. We had a fantastic time :)

This year, my family and I decided to celebrate Halloween together! We usually all celebrate Halloween with our friends separately, but this year we planned a casual Halloween dinner at my home...and let me tell you, this has been my favorite Halloween yet!

I was in charge of the Halloween decorations, so I went all out with fake spiderwebs, spiders, pumpkins, etc.

I also displayed a variety of candy (What's Halloween without candy right?!). But the best part were the funny Halloween names we came up with for each candy:

My mom planned a spooktacular dinner with Monster sandwiches, human fingers in dip, and monster salads!

My brother Tom even carved some pumpkins, which turned out fantastic!

But the best part of the night was definitely the costumes. I decided to collect a bunch of costumes from when we were kids and I displayed them all over the room. Then, as each family member arrived, they could pick out a costume and relive the memories from when we were kids.

We had a BLAST trying on different costumes and taking funny pictures. Definitely the best Halloween I have had in years!

I felt so angelical and innocent in today's all-white outfit. Something about the crisp white over white, plus the glittery silver heels, and the aqua crystal necklace just felt like I should be floating on the clouds...

I wasn't really planning on celebrating Halloween this weekend, but a party sort of popped up out of nowhere. I kind of improvised a Halloween costume with some spiderweb tights, a black lace dress, some dark eyeshadow, and a spider hair accessory. It wasn't the best costume ever, but it was better than nothing.... Sorry I didn't manage to take any pictures!

Today is the The Joy of Fashion's 2 year Blogiversary!!! Yaaaiii!! I can't believe it has really been two years since I wrote my very first blog post (See my first post HERE and my first outfit post HERE).

Its amazing how my blog has become such an important part of my life now. While I lived in the U.S., my blog was a way for my family to see what I was up to. Now that I am back home living in Panama, my blog allows me to share my passion for fashion with others.
